Pushing boundaries

Earlier this year I was working on a creative branding project and one of my ideas involved a filigree design. The mock-ups looked pretty cool (pretty and cool perhaps?) and it became the favoured direction. The artworking (inevitably) landed with me, leading to the challenge of actually drawing this filigree pattern.

I hadn’t worked on anything ornate and decorative before digitally and so I picked up a few extra Adobe Illustrator skills and discovered some tools that had remained a mystery for some years. While my patterns are somewhat simple, it’s always great to have a go at something new and see where it takes you. I’ve used it again in some recent design work and I will keep practicing – it’s quite the mindfulness activity too.
