Dieppe
Named after the first of Samuel Beckett’s Quatre Poèmes, this piece is a visceral response to what seems to me to be a juxtaposition of bleakness and comfort. There is a feeling of peace and familiarity yet a sense of an ending. I tried to capture a nocturnal journey along that coastline as if well-trodden - the combination of having looked at both the English and French versions of the poem where translation and interpretation are subjective.
